This is interesting, since librarians and archivists have much to learn from the episode and have already found themselves in the midst of interpretative, representational, and emotional debates, including those such as the "Sigmund Freud: Conflict and Culture" at the Library of Congress and the Newberry Library's exhibition on the five hundredth anniversary of Columbus's voyage to the New World, America in 1492. The library and archival literature, however, has been silent on this matter. Experts from such diverse fields as museum studies, journalism, psychiatry, and history have commented on the event and its aftermath. Critics are still trying to make sense of both the exhibition's development and the resulting controversy.
The fate of this exhibition has been the subject of at least five books, numerous book chapters, and dozens of articles.
